Let's make some bets

<![CDATA[In the (tweets deleted) past, I was super critical of Uber, Tesla, and the general Crypto ecosystem because of a very important factor: The People Running Them Were Assholes. There are some other more objective ways to measure the future performance of companies, but it seems to work pretty well in the long run. In a bull run, everyone is a fan; in a downturn, you better learn to be nice.

So let’s make a few more bets:

!--more--

Tether will finally de-peg like others before it. Most alt-coins have already lost more than 90% of their peaks, but soon the Blue Chip Coins will go bust too. “No matter how far you fall, you can always fall another 100%.”
As a result, MicroStrategy will finally have their margin call. Saylor has managed to turn a pretty decent business (Note: they were my first and third jobs out of college) into a pseudo-Bitcoin ETF. I wonder what company will take over that building in Tysons. Capital One might need it for overflow.
Twitter will be sold and/or implode. Too many folks with Very Important Roles have left, but also if you cut half the company, there’s gonna be a few engineers that were holding their fingers in the leaky dam that are now gone. Maybe PIF will buy the smoldering remains.
Elon and Tesla’s net worth will plummet. I don’t know if it’ll be related to Twitter or the rest of the car industry catching up or SEC fraud investigations. But there’s too many things in play for it to last long as The Biggest Market Cap car company. SpaceX will be fine/purchased by a Boeing type.
Republicans won’t win in 2024. Too many assholes in the same kitchen.
Facebook, sorry, Meta will be split up.
Red Bull F1 won’t dominate this era. Christian Horner? Big asshole energy.
Barstool will somehow also implode. The whole thing is made out of assholes.

I’m sure I’ll think of some more, but honestly it seems very easy? Just bet on nice people, and against assholes. It’s the right thing to do and usually works out pretty dang well.

Danny

P.S. The FTX chief regulatory officer was behind the cheating scandals during the Online Poker Boom. Again, bet against assholes.
---

Write.As members can comment here: a href="https://remark.as/p/latest.danny.page/lets-make-some-bets"Discuss.../a

Fediverse members can comment by searching for the AT-AT: code class="sable"danny@latest.danny.page/code

Twitter members can comment here, for now.]]>

Into The Fediverse

<![CDATA[A big part of moving over to the Fediverse via Mastodon is being curious about how I can start to put a lot more of my #Content under my domain name. Before soon-to-implode takeover of Twitter, I published content on a variety of platforms that I had zero control over.

Microblogging on Twitter, photos on Instagram, making sure my grandparents could see pics of my kid on Facebook, and occasionally writing on Medium. But none of these are mine. But I’ve long had a forum on Skrimmage.com for analytics and also owned (leased?) the Danny.Page domain name. No better time than now to try putting my work under that domain. Here’s how I’m thinking about doing it:

!--more--

Microblogging on Mastodon. This is hosted at Masto.Host. The sub-domain is banter.danny.page This will likely be the center of my ‘identity’ as I find microblogging the most natural way to publish online.
Blogging on Write.As. This is currently hosted in the Write.as community, and hosted under the sub-domain latest.danny.page. I was torn on what to use this for, as I might not necessarily write “blogs” but just shorter pieces (or longer microblogging threads).
Will I replace Instagram/Facebook? I think eventually, but I really need to be certain that I’m dedicating more time in the Fediverse. PixelFed seems really promising here. If I can get some really good privacy settings so that my family can view certain photos I don’t really care to share with everyone, that’d be great.

Might do similar things with Skrimmage, but I know I haven’t done much with the forum and have to consider how much I can do to lead in that aspect. It takes a lot to run a community; these solo-domain instances are a lot easier to maintain!

I’m also curious how people manage all of these in one place. The Feed on Mastodon or elsewhere is nice, but I think I’d prefer something a little different to keep up with ActivityPub aware sites. If folks have any insight on a personal dashboard, Flipboard, RSS reader type software that’s great for ActivityPub, I’d love to hear it.

Oh, I need to update my actual Danny.Page homepage. A lot of work. But dang it’s fun to think about truly creating and owning a part of the internet again, especially one that can’t be s\\\* on by a billionaire.

\- Danny

---

Write.As members can comment here: a href="https://remark.as/p/latest.danny.page/into-the-fediverse"Discuss.../a

Fediverse members can comment by searching for the AT-AT: code class="sable"danny@latest.danny.page/code

Twitter members can comment here, for now.]]>
